Aircraft leasing company Avolon has placed a firm order for 110 Airbus aircraft, adding 35 A330-900 widebody jets and 75 A320neo Family aircraft to its portfolio.
The order increases Avolon’s total commitments for the Airbus A330-900 to 114 aircraft and its orders for the A320 Family to around 650, strengthening its position in the market for aircraft leasing.
Andy Cronin, Avolon’s CEO, said the order would strengthen the company’s delivery pipeline and help it support airline customers’ fleet requirements into the next decade. He also pointed to continued demand for both the A330neo and A320neo families.
Airbus welcomed the agreement as a further endorsement of its aircraft from the leasing sector. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus executive vice president of sales for its commercial aircraft business, said the order reinforced Avolon’s position as a leading lessor of the A330-900.
Two Aircraft Families for Different Routes
The order covers two aircraft types designed for different parts of the market. The A330-900 is a widebody aircraft intended for medium and long-haul operations, while the A320neo Family serves short and medium-haul routes.
Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330-900 has a published range of up to 8,100 nautical miles (15,000 kilometers). Airbus says the aircraft offers a 25% reduction in fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions and operating costs compared with previous-generation competitor aircraft.
The A330neo also features Airbus’ Airspace cabin, designed to improve comfort for passengers and crew.
The A320neo Family, meanwhile, remains a key option for airlines operating high-frequency domestic and international services. The family includes the A321neo, its largest member, which offers extended range and additional passenger capacity.
Airbus says the A320neo Family delivers at least 20% fuel savings and CO₂ reductions compared with previous-generation single-aisle aircraft. The manufacturer has received more than 20,400 orders for the A320 Family worldwide.
The latest agreement expands Avolon’s exposure to both narrowbody and widebody aircraft, giving it aircraft to offer airline customers across a range of route types. The announcement did not specify delivery dates for the 110 aircraft.
