The American airline Delta Air Lines announced that it will postpone the launch of the planned direct route between Atlanta and Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to March 2027. The company's announcement issued today (10/12/26) stated that "the decision was made in light of the changing developments in the region."

Many airlines, including European ones, have also temporarily canceled flights to Dubai, following recent security developments.

Delta said the safety and security of passengers and employees continues to guide the company's operational decisions. It added that the company is in contact with relevant government and aviation authorities, including Saudia and Riyadh Air, and is monitoring developments.

Despite the launch delay, Delta emphasizes that Saudi Arabia remains an important market for the company and that it intends to operate in the kingdom for the long term. The company said it expects to connect the country to its global network of destinations starting in March 2027.

The Atlanta-Riyadh route is intended to strengthen air connectivity between the United States and Saudi Arabia, as part of expanding aviation and business ties between the countries. Its postponement joins adjustments being made by airlines in the wake of security developments in the region and in other countries.

Passengers who booked tickets on Delta to Riyadh will be able to choose between changing their booking or getting a refund.
