Intensive transportation disruptions are expected in Lisbon today, Wednesday, October 14, in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, following a 24-hour worker strike in the city's metro system, which serves residents and tourists visiting one of Europe's most visited cities.
The strike, announced by the trade unions representing employees of Metropolitano de Lisboa, is expected to lead to the cessation of train service and the closure of metro stations.
In an official announcement issued by the metro operator yesterday, October 13, it clarified that following the strike, it expects a shutdown of transportation service and closure of stations throughout Wednesday.
Road to International Airport Also Affected
One significant consequence for tourists and passengers is the expected disruption to service on the metro's red line, Linha Vermelha, which connects Humberto Delgado International Airport to the city's transport network.

Following the strike, passengers planning to reach the airport via the metro are required to prepare for other transportation options and consider departing earlier.
The strike affects the metro system, not the airport itself. No announcement has been made about flight cancellations due to the strike.
When Will Activity Resume?
According to the operator's announcement, train service is expected to resume on Thursday, October 15, at 6:30 a.m., Portuguese time.
Until activity resumes, tourists and passengers are advised to check the status of service at stations, prepare for travel by alternative means of transportation, and take into account additional time for arriving at their flights.
