Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, woke up this morning (October 15) to a stormy, prolonged weather system with heavy rain, hail, thunder, and lightning, especially flooding across the city.
The Turkish Meteorological Service, MGM, warned during the night about heavy rains and local thunderstorms in Istanbul but also in several other regions of the country.
The local meteorological service's announcement states that "caution and precautions should be taken against hazards such as flash floods, floods, traffic disruptions, local hail, lightning, landslides and strong winds."
But this morning may be just the beginning. The storm system is expected to remain in Turkey until Saturday, potentially causing damage and disruption across large parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the warnings issued yesterday regarding the storm that could hit Greece were softened overnight, and in large parts of the country, the weather is expected to stabilize with less powerful winds and normal temperatures for the season.
