Ryanair will open a two-aircraft base at Rimini Airport for summer 2027, backed by a $200 million (€178 million) investment that will double the airline’s seat capacity in the city compared with summer 2025.

The expansion follows the Emilia-Romagna regional government’s decision to abolish the Municipal Tax, which Ryanair says has helped support additional routes, passenger traffic and employment across the region.

The airline plans to offer more than 600,000 seats across 17 routes from Rimini in summer 2027, including five new connections to Dublin, Memmingen, Stockholm, Tirana and Warsaw. The schedule will include 114 weekly flights, twice the number operated in summer 2025, according to Ryanair.

The airline expects the expanded operation to support more than 500 local jobs, including positions for pilots and cabin crew, while bringing additional visitors to Emilia-Romagna.

Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson announced the investment at TTG Rimini, crediting the regional government’s tax decision with creating conditions for further growth.

Emilia-Romagna President Michele de Pascale: "The launch of these new Ryanair routes from Rimini for Summer 2027 highlights the success of Emilia-Romagna’s strategy to strengthen regional connectivity and tourism. These services will boost international access to the region, support local jobs and businesses, and reinforce Rimini’s position as a key gateway to the Riviera and Emilia-Romagna.”

The Rimini announcement forms part of Ryanair’s broader expansion across Emilia-Romagna. The airline says the abolition of the Municipal Tax has already enabled it to add nine routes across the region, bringing more than 700,000 passengers annually, 250,000 additional seats and support for over 450 jobs.

Ryanair is also urging Italy’s national government to abolish the tax at airports across the country. The airline says a nationwide change could prompt a further $4 billion investment in Italy, including 40 additional aircraft, more than 250 new routes, 20 million additional passengers annually and over 15,000 jobs by 2030. These figures represent Ryanair’s stated plans rather than confirmed commitments.

To mark the new base and routes, the airline has launched a limited-time fare sale with tickets advertised from €29.99 through its website and app.

The new Rimini base is scheduled to begin operating in summer 2027.
