The incident began at around 12:59 p.m., when police received an initial report of a man shooting at a vehicle. Within about a minute, the emergency call center received additional calls reporting that a man had entered the school and started shooting.
Police sent units to the scene, and at 1:02 p.m. the first officers arrived. Shortly thereafter, the officers reported that the suspect had been shot and neutralized, apparently by a person who was at the scene. The circumstances of the incident and the suspect's identity were not disclosed.
At the same time, security forces worked to evacuate students and staff from all classrooms. The students were transported on Bend-La Pine School District buses to the church, where parents were asked to come and pick up their children.
