The stormy weather in southern France has claimed the life of one person in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, while another driver is missing in the Haute-Corse department.
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu addressed the events in a statement he published on the X network, offering condolences to the victims' families and thanking the rescue forces and emergency services on the ground.
Leornu called on residents in affected areas to follow the authorities' instructions.
"The extreme weather that is hitting southern France has claimed the life of one person in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Another driver is reported missing in Upper Corsica.
My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims, as well as the residents who were severely affected by the weather. Thank you to the firefighters, security forces and all emergency services operating on the ground. In the affected departments, the instructions of the authorities must be followed."
At the same time, the French Naval Command issued a weather warning for strong winds. According to the announcement, an initial warning for strong winds is expected to go into effect this evening, ahead of a significant storm expected on Thursday.
Authorities urged the public to secure objects that could blow away in the wind and emphasized that following precautionary rules is essential for residents' safety.
