Toronto Pearson International Airport reported flight delays after its Apron Management Unit (AMU) Tower was evacuated following reports of smoke.

In a statement posted on social media at approximately 11:00 PM Canada time (GMT-4), the airport said staff had since returned to the tower and resumed operations. However, an air traffic management initiative remained in effect, causing delays to both arriving and departing flights.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration in the US, departures to the airport were "grounded due to equipment outage". The restrictions applied to departures heading to Toronto Pearson from multiple air traffic control facilities across the United States and Canada, including centers serving New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, Los Angeles and other regions.

Passengers were advised to check their flight status directly with their airline for the latest updates.

In August, travelers at Toronto Pearson Airport faced a series of disruptions after an outage affecting Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) systems.
