Transylvania, Romania’s iconic region, offers more than one way to spend Halloween in a truly mesmerizing environment. Across it, medieval towns, historic landmarks, themed dinners and after-dark adventures provide special options ranging from theatrical nights out to family-friendly cultural events.

In 2026, Bran Castle is preparing “The Legend of Dracul,” while Sighișoara, Brașov and Cluj-Napoca offer other seasonal experiences. Let's discover them together.

Bran Castle: Experience the Legend of Dracul

The popular 14th-century castle located 30 minutes by car from Brașov became a royal residence when it was given to Queen Marie in 1920. Although its image is closely tied to Dracula, a firm link to Vlad the Impaler has not been established.

Nonetheless, its association with Bram Stoker’s books is undeniable and the main reason it attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year. Hence the yearly Bran Castle Halloween parties and their success.

This year, the program runs from October 24 to November 1. October 31 has the most extensive schedule, including adult-focused tours, parties and premium packages. The program follows moon phases, from mystery to intense scenes and a family-oriented finale.

The October 31 “New Moon” tour is recommended for adults, with stronger effects, darker spaces and more dynamic interactions.

The “Blood Moon” package combines an evening castle tour with a party in the Royal Park until the early hours of the morning. The 600-square-metre gala tent will feature DJs, costumes, horror-film projections, photo areas and a bar.

The “Full Moon” premium package adds dinner at the Tea House in the Royal Park to the Halloween tour and party.

For a truly special experience, the “Eclipse” VIP package offers a tour and private party inside the castle. with a buffet, an open bar and more DJs. Up to 100 guests can move between the private event and outdoor party. The castle closes at 10 p.m. for preparations; Eclipse guests wait in the Royal Park and return at 11 p.m.

Cluj-Napoca: Museum After Dark or a Forest Adventure

Cluj-Napoca combines history and outdoor storytelling around Halloween.

“Mummy’s Night” has been associated with late-October after-hours programs at the National Museum of Transylvanian History.

The event centers on a human mummy and its Egyptian sarcophagus, with treasure hunts, theatrical storytelling and history workshops for adults and children.

“Because Halloween night is approaching and because people are dressing up as skeletons, werewolves, vampires, mimicking horror, the National Museum of Transylvania's History challenges you to something else: why play with death when you can see it in all its splendor? Now, at MNIT, you can stay in the same room with a 2000-year-old Egyptian mummy, whose sarcophagus has been discovered. You can see the paintings on the mummy's textiles, you can find out facts about it and you can spend part of the night in the same room with... a real mummy,” says the museum on its website.

Outside the city, Hoia-Baciu Forest is well-known for local legends, UFO reports and its twisted trees. Guided night walks organized by local groups explore the forest with flashlights, sharing ghost stories, folklore and accounts of supposed unexplained activity.

The forest is promoted as one of the world’s most haunted places, although paranormal claims remain unverified. On Halloween night, Hoia-Baciu Forest organizes special guided night tours departing from 6 p.m. outside the Hungarian Opera House in central Cluj-Napoca.

Led by local guides, the experience covers 3.5 kilometres of forest trails over three to four hours. Guides share local legends, scientific observations and personal accounts of unexplained events. Flashlights and rain ponchos are provided, and transport from Cluj-Napoca is included in private tours.
