British Airways Holidays, one of the UK’s leading and most trusted tour operators, has decided to switch things up and change the way members of The British Airways Club earn Avios on holiday packages.

The new system will launch on November 24, 2026, and let members collect six Avios for every £1 spent on the total package price, rather than earning rewards mainly from the flight portion of a booking.

Substantial Difference

Under the updated scheme, Avios will be calculated on the full booking value and divided equally among all travelers included in the reservation. Members can collect their individual share or pool their points through a Household Account.

The change replaces the current system, under which all travelers earn Avios on the flight element of a package, while the lead passenger receives an additional Avios for every £1 spent on the overall booking.

The difference could be substantial. British Airways Holidays gives the example of a two-person holiday package to Crete, under which each traveler could earn 11,316 Avios, or more than 22,000 combined.

That would be enough for each person to book a one-way Reward Flight to Paris using 10,000 Avios plus £2.50. Under the previous system, the lead passenger would have earned 5,462 Avios and the second traveler 1,690 Avios.

The update is intended to make rewards easier to understand and bring Avios earning more closely into line with how members collect tier points.

Research commissioned by British Airways Holidays and conducted by YouGov found that 40% of UK adults consider it important for holiday spending to help them save towards future travel through rewards or loyalty points. Another 35% said they would be most likely to use earned loyalty points to reduce the cost of a future holiday.

Andrew Flintham, managing director of British Airways Holidays, said the aim was to make booking a holiday more rewarding by helping customers build their Avios balance for future trips, flights or upgrades.

Club members can also use Avios to reduce the price of British Airways Holidays packages. The company says its offering includes selected hotels, 24-hour support, low-deposit options and generous luggage allowances.
