Tourists planning to visit Paris this weekend are likely to encounter changes to their travel plans, after several major museums announced they would close their doors on Saturday, October 24, following planned demonstrations in the city.

Nighttime Curfew in Central Areas of the City

In addition to the closure of museums, the nighttime curfew in the Place de la République and Les Halles areas continues. According to the Paris police, adults and minors are prohibited from staying in these areas between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., from October 22 to October 25.

The directive was issued in accordance with the instructions of French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu and Interior Minister Laurent Nunez.

Paris police have approved the route of the CGT workers' union demonstration to be held on Saturday, October 24th between Place de la Bastille and Place de la Nation in the east of the capital. The march is expected to leave at 2:00 PM from Place de la Bastille, continue through Rue de Lyon, Avenue Domnil, Place Félix Aboit, Boulevard de Rey and Boulevard de Picpus, and end at Place de la Nation.

The Paris police said the route was approved in coordination with the participating organizations, and that anyone interested in protesting can do so within the established framework.

The US Embassy in France, in another warning to its citizens, noted that many groups have submitted requests to hold demonstrations on Saturday, October 24. French authorities have announced that they will work to reduce demonstrations that are defined as illegal, while demonstrations organized by groups such as labor unions are expected to be allowed.

The warning also applies to American football fans who will arrive in Paris for the NFL game scheduled for Sunday, October 25. The embassy advised them to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings.

In light of the changes, visitors to Paris are advised to check museum announcements and official guidelines before heading to tourist sites, and to stay updated on possible changes in traffic arrangements and access to areas where demonstrations are taking place.
