Budapest International Airport is preparing for the winter season with a significant expansion of its flight network, including more than 185 destinations worldwide and a 10% increase in seat capacity compared to the previous winter. The new plan includes increased frequencies on existing routes, new destinations and expanded connectivity between Hungary and Europe, Asia and popular holiday destinations.
Notable moves in the winter schedule include four new routes by the low-cost airline easyJet to the UK, expanded operations to China, increased flight supply to Scandinavia, and the opening of a route to Marsa Alam, the Egyptian resort destination on the Red Sea coast.
More Flights to China: Daily Routes from Shanghai and Beijing
One of the main changes in the winter schedule concerns the expansion of connectivity between Budapest and China. During the season, daily flights from Shanghai and Beijing to the Hungarian capital are planned, alongside three weekly flights from Guangzhou.
The expansion of frequencies is expected to improve travel options between the two countries, for both tourists and business travelers. In addition, the routes may serve as a connection point for onward flights to additional destinations in Asia.
Scandinavia Is Getting Stronger: 35% Increase in Seat Supply
Northern Europe is also seeing a significant increase in capacity. According to airport data, seat supply to Scandinavian destinations is expected to increase by 35% compared to the previous winter season.
Wizz Air is expected to operate four weekly flights to Oslo, while SAS plans to operate two daily flights between Copenhagen and Budapest on some days in November and December.
The expansion is not limited to the Scandinavian countries: seat supply on flights to Poland is expected to increase by 50%, in the Baltic region by 7.4% and on routes to Spain by 12%.
easyJet Adds Four Routes to the UK
easyJet is expanding its operations from Budapest with four new routes: Belfast, Bristol, Liverpool and London Southend.
The line to London Southend is planned to operate throughout the year, while the lines to Belfast, Bristol and Liverpool are expected to operate twice a week, from mid-November to the end of December.
The expansion will increase easyJet's number of routes from Budapest from three to 11 within three years, according to the airport. The addition is expected to expand flight options between Hungary and the UK ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
New Winter Destination: Marsa Alam, Egypt
Those who prefer to swap the European cold for sunshine will also find another option in the new schedule. Wizz Air is adding flights from Budapest to Marsa Alam, a resort town on the Red Sea coast in Egypt.
Known for its coral reefs, diving sites, snorkeling and beach holidays, the new route expands the range of sunny destinations available to passengers from Budapest during the winter months.
Budapest Expands Flight Map
The new winter schedule reflects an expansion in Budapest Airport's operations, both through increased frequencies on existing routes and by opening new routes.
With more than 185 destinations and a 10% increase in seat availability, the airport is strengthening its connectivity to destinations in Europe and Asia and expanding travel options for vacations, family visits, and business trips even outside the summer season.
