Today at noon, along with Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the Christmas market in Magdeburg, where the deadly attack occurred yesterday.

5 dead, including a child, and at least 200 injured in the deadly attack, where a car broke into a crowd at the Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg.

The suspect in the attack is a Saudi citizen with permanent residency in Germany, to which he arrived in 2006, arrested by the police.

Scholz described the attack as a "terrible" horror, reiterated the casualty count, which now stands at 5, and noted how more than 200 people were injured.

"There is no more peaceful and joyful place than a Christmas market," said Scholz. "What a terrible act it is to injure and kill so many people with such cruelty."

Scholz noted that more than 40 people were "critically injured" and added that the authorities are "very concerned."

"We must stand together, and we will stand together," the chancellor called to the citizens of Germany at a press conference at the site of the attack.
