Following its rare move to file criminal charges in Spain against a disruptive passenger who falsely claimed diplomatic status, Ryanair now faces another incident in its ongoing battle against unruly traveler behavior.
On Friday evening (March 28), the airline issued an official statement welcoming the decision of a Maltese court, which convicted a passenger on flight FR5205 from Cologne to Malta for smoking onboard and refusing to follow crew instructions.
The passenger pleaded guilty and was fined €2,000.
Ryanair reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy, stating: “It is unacceptable for passengers — including families with children — to endure the disruptive behavior of a single individual. We will continue to take firm action against any such violations, including flight bans, collaboration with law enforcement, and civil litigation.”
These recent incidents are part of a broader effort by Ryanair in recent years to deter and penalize unruly behavior that endangers the flight experience for both passengers and crew.
