Lightning, Thunder and Strong Winds: Unusual Weather Warning in Cyprus

A yellow warning has been issued for a stormy weather system, mainly in the western part of the island. The rain will gradually spread to other areas

An exceptional weather warning was issued in Cyprus ahead of a stormy day, with strong thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail expected. According to the Cyprus Meteorological Service, the warning takes effect now, Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 09:00, and is expected to end at 17:00.

According to the forecast, the thunderstorms are expected to affect the western part of the island first, then gradually spread to other areas. The rate of rainfall may reach 35 to 55 millimeters per hour - an intensity that could cause local flooding and traffic disruptions.

Along with the rain, there is a chance of hail, and during thunderstorms, the wind gusts may reach particularly strong speeds. The warning was set to yellow, indicating the need for vigilance and monitoring of developing weather conditions.
