The iconic British cruise company Cunard, founded over 180 years ago, has announced a prestigious partnership with Sail4th 250 — the nonprofit organization spearheading the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations in 2026, taking place in the ports of New York and New Jersey.
As part of this historic collaboration, Cunard’s flagship luxury ocean liner, the Queen Mary 2, will be the only ocean liner in the world participating in the commemorative festivities. Guests aboard the Queen Mary 2 will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime front-row seat to what promises to be an extraordinary celebration of American history and maritime heritage.
The 250th anniversary, set for July 3–8, 2026, will feature the largest international gathering of tall ships and naval vessels ever assembled. So far, 17 countries have confirmed their participation, with more than 30 tall ships and numerous U.S. Navy vessels scheduled to appear. Highlights will include vibrant waterfront festivals, public tours of the ships, an exhibition of 18th-century historical documents, and a massive fireworks display over the Manhattan skyline.
From her prime location in New York Harbor, the Queen Mary 2 will offer guests unmatched panoramic views of the July 4th Parade of Ships, expected to draw between 8 to 10 million spectators along the 15-mile New York/New Jersey waterfront. The maritime spectacle will culminate in a dramatic military procession and a breathtaking pyrotechnic finale, with the legendary liner serving as a majestic symbol of transatlantic history and modern celebration.
Whether docked or at anchor, the Queen Mary 2 will not only participate — she will stand as an elegant centerpiece of this monumental event.
Katie McAllister, President of Cunard: "Cunard has a long and respected history with the U.S. as pioneers of transatlantic travel, and we are proud to play a role in this important celebration. As the only ocean liner in the world, Queen Mary 2 will offer guests a unique experience - immersing them in the excitement and grandeur of America’s 250th Independence Day. Witnessing history in a spectacular way, and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it. This partnership reflects Cunard's rooted connection to the United States and its rich maritime history. For over 185 years, Cunard ships have been pioneers in transatlantic travel, and in 2026, the presence of Queen Mary 2 in New York Harbor will add to that history."
Chris O'Brien, President of Sail4th 250: "The participation of the Queen Mary 2 greatly ensures that maritime travelers can gain first-class seating for the most spectacular event in the history of New York Harbor. Given Cunard's glorious history and its indelible ties to the United States, we are thrilled to have found our nation's perfect historic partner for this national voyage."
Ross D. Levy, CEO of NYS Tourism Division, Empire State Development: "The inclusion of Queen Mary 2 to Sail4th will only amplify the celebrations surrounding America's 250th birthday. I LOVE NY proudly supports Sail4th's efforts to create this once-in-a-lifetime unique event."
