Bulgaria's National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued orange and yellow weather warnings for Monday, November 2, following a major rainfall system.
Flood risks are a particular concern in areas along the Black Sea coast, while further rain, strong winds, and snow in higher mountain areas are expected in the coming days.
The warnings, that cover 18 districts across the country, follow forecasts of significant precipitation, with some areas also facing the risk of rapid flooding in rivers, streams, and drainage basins.
Black Sea Coast at the Center of the Warnings
According to the official forecast, significant rainfall is expected across eastern Bulgaria throughout the day, particularly in the northeastern parts of the country.
Along the Black Sea coast, cloudy and rainy conditions are forecast, with particularly heavy precipitation in central and northern coastal areas.
Authorities have identified a risk of rapid flooding in several drainage basins, including areas around Varna, Kavarna, and Balchik. Further south, the areas around Burgas, Sozopol, Primorsko, and Tsarevo are also among those facing potential flood risks.
Rain Expected to Continue in the Coming Days
According to the meteorological institute, rainfall is expected to return and intensify across many parts of Bulgaria on Tuesday, November 3.
Some locations could see significant precipitation, while strong easterly and northeasterly winds are also forecast in eastern parts of the country.
On Wednesday, rain is expected to continue in eastern Bulgaria, with locally heavy showers possible over short periods.
Strong to gale-force winds are also forecast along the Black Sea coast.
The weather system is expected to gradually weaken later in the week, although unstable conditions may persist in several areas.
Snow in the Mountains, Rain in the Capital
Rain is expected in mountainous areas, with snowfall forecast at elevations above approximately 1,800 to 2,000 meters.
Winds in the mountains may be moderate to strong, mainly from the southeast.
In Sofia, cool weather and intermittent rain are forecast today, with temperatures ranging between approximately 8 and 9 degrees Celsius.
Cloudy and rainy conditions are also expected to continue in the capital on Tuesday.
Travelers currently in Bulgaria or planning to visit in the coming days are advised to monitor local weather warnings and adjust their travel plans according to conditions.
