The Thessaloniki Metro continues to gain momentum. According to official data published by the Greek Ministry of Transport, in the 23 months of operation, from its launch on November 30, 2024 , to October 22, 2026, approximately 50.69 million passengers used the metro. The data was presented by Greece's Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Nikos Tachias.

One notable figure is the increase in passenger traffic after integrating the extension to Kalamaria into the network.

In September, the average daily passenger traffic was 107,600, while in October, by the 22nd of the month, it had already reached 126,790 passengers per day, an increase of 17.8% within a month, and about 58% more than the daily average recorded on the original line until August 2026.

Agia Sophia station remains the busiest on the network, with up to 20,000 entries per day, while Kalamaria station has already entered the top ten most requested stations.

Nighttime operations are also in demand: During the five nights the system operated 24 hours a day on September and October 17, a total of 54,500 entries were recorded between midnight and 3 a.m. On the busiest night, 18,600 passengers were recorded during this time period.

99.97% Availability

Alongside the increase in passenger traffic, the Thessaloniki Metro also exhibits exceptionally high accuracy and availability rates. Train arrival accuracy is 99.93%, while the average network availability reaches 99.35%, with some months recording a rate of 99.97%.

The Thessaloniki Metro is an advanced, fully automated, driverless system.

The data places the system at the top of mass transit systems in Europe, such as those in Milan and Copenhagen. However, Techios emphasizes that the data does not indicate a fault-free system, but rather high reliability at a relatively early stage of its operation.
