Swiss airline SWISS continues to expand its fleet of new flagship aircraft. Starting December 15, 2026, the airline will operate the Airbus A350-900 aircraft between Zurich and Mumbai, bringing its new in-flight experience, SWISS Senses, to the Mumbai route for the first time.
The new aircraft will operate on the route daily until January 3, 2027. Starting January 4, the company will switch to operating it six times a week, while maintaining daily flights to Mumbai using additional aircraft. According to current planning, the operation of the A350 on the route is intended for the winter season 2026/27 only.
The move to the new aircraft is expected to shorten the flight time from Zurich to Mumbai by about 25 minutes, to about eight hours and ten minutes. The improvement stems, among other things, from the aircraft's lightweight structure, its advanced engines, and its ability to fly at a higher cruising altitude.
But the upgrade is not just about speed. The A350 cabin offers the new SWISS Senses experience, featuring a new design, an emphasis on comfort and privacy, and advanced entertainment systems with larger screens. Until now, SWISS has operated the Mumbai route mainly with Airbus A330 aircraft.
The Special Coloring Will Remain in the Air
At the same time, SWISS announced that it will extend the period of use of the special SWISS Wanderlust livery, which adorns its first 350 aircraft. The company initially planned to keep the unique design until the first quarter of 2027, but decided to extend the period beyond that date.
The date for the company's return to traditional painting has not yet been set. The aircraft will be repainted as part of a pre-planned paint treatment.
