Credit: Colorado State Police A fatal shooting occurred tonight (Friday, November 6, GMT time) in the city of Lakewood, Colorado, United States, during which an officer was killed in the line of duty, three other officers were injured, and another civilian was injured.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis confirmed in an official statement posted on his X account the death of the officer and the injuries to the three other officers and the civilian.
“Colorado mourns the death of a Lakewood Police Department officer who was killed in the line of duty tonight,” the governor wrote.
Polis expressed his condolences to the officer's family, loved ones, colleagues, and all members of the Lakewood Police Department, adding that his thoughts are with the three injured officers and the injured citizen, who are receiving medical treatment.
The governor also added that Colorado is grateful to the law enforcement officers who risk their lives to protect our communities, and that the state stands with Lakewood in this difficult time.
At the same time, the Colorado State Patrol issued an official statement of mourning following the officer's death.
“Our hearts are broken by the loss of a Lakewood Police Department officer who made the ultimate sacrifice earlier tonight,” the police statement said.
In the statement, the state police also addressed the three additional police officers who were injured in the shooting, saying that it was sending them prayers, strength, and wishes for a full recovery.
“To the family, friends, and the entire Lakewood Police Department - we stand with you.” the message concluded.
