Now It’s Official.
After being published on Passport News last week, the Russian airline Red Wings officially announces that starting June 12, it will operate a new flight route from Moscow and Sochi to Eilat.
This is another step in efforts to revive air transport to the southern city, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism, the Airports Authority, the Eilat Municipality, and the city’s hotel association.
The move comes after a recent visit by travel agents and airline representatives from Russia to Israel, where they were exposed to the tourism potential of Eilat and the region. Following the visit, talks commenced between Red Wings management and the management of the Airports Authority and Ramon Airport, leading to the company's decision to launch the new route.
Now, Red Wings’ CEO, Vladimir Kaminin, informed the CEO of the Airports Authority, Sharon Kadmi, and the director of Ramon Airport, Zoar Gefen, about the company’s decision to promote the launch of a flight route from Moscow and Sochi to Ramon, starting June 12: "As a result of our joint efforts, we plan to start with a weekly flight to Eilat, with potential for expansion to two flights a week," Kaminin said. According to him, as demand increases, the company intends to use larger aircraft.
Meanwhile, the Airports Authority and Ramon Airport are preparing for an increase in passenger traffic during the Passover holiday, in collaboration with service providers at the airport and other operating entities.
The Minister of Transport and Road Safety, Miri Regev, welcomed the decision: "This is another step in expanding international activity at Ramon Airport and strengthening tourism to Eilat. The Ministry of Transport and the Airports Authority will continue efforts to bring additional international airline routes to Ramon and Eilat."
The Mayor of Eilat, Eli Lankri, added: "After months of hard work and inter-agency cooperation, the first tourist flights from Russia to Eilat, which we have been waiting for, will soon land at Ramon Airport... A big thank you to the Minister of Transport, who is actively promoting Eilat and the routes to it, to the Minister of Tourism, the CEOs of the Airports Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority, and to all the partners who contributed to this important breakthrough for the city of Eilat."
Let us note that EL-AL announced last week the renewal of its direct flights to Moscow, starting next month.
