Heathrow Airport's management announces an accelerated investment plan of £2.3 billion to upgrade the airport over the next two years, marking the largest private sector capital investment in transportation infrastructure in the UK.

The £2.3 billion investment, an increase of £244 million from the planned investment program, will be used to improve all terminals, including baggage delivery and projects supporting on-time take-offs and landings. The investment plan will enhance the service, resilience, passenger experience, and sustainability for all Heathrow passengers.

Heathrow's increased investment aims to support the government's national growth mission. To deliver the UK’s industrial strategy and support industries reliant on Heathrow’s global connectivity, it is crucial that the UK's international gate for trade and tourism is future-ready. These investments over the next two years will drive economic growth across all parts of the UK while allowing Heathrow, the world’s best-connected airport, to continue providing the best service to passengers and airlines.

Heathrow CEO Thomas Wooldby said: "Heathrow is Britain's gateway to the world, and ultimately, the country's gateway to growth. Today's announcement confirms that we will continue to invest over a billion pounds in cash from the private sector each year at the airport to provide the facilities our airlines and passengers want, while boosting the UK's economy and creating opportunities for businesses across the nation."

This announcement follows significant airport investments in 2024, which amounted to £1.1 billion. The £191 million investment in upgrading security lanes throughout 2024, for example, ensured Heathrow is ready for the expected demand increase during the Christmas period and continues focusing on the passenger experience.

Today's announcement details the scale and impact of the upgrade plan that the UK's central airport will undertake over the next two years. These investments will ensure Heathrow continues to provide opportunities for UK businesses to grow and thrive.
