Varna Airport, Bulgaria’s “Airport of the Roses,” is on the brink of a historic transformation.
Wizz Air is making a bold strategic move by significantly expanding its presence in the coastal city—often called “the Pearl of the Black Sea.”
Wizz Air is set to establish Varna as a key operational hub for 2025, introducing new and unexpected routes, alongside the much-anticipated return of direct flights to Israel.
For the First Time: Direct Flights from Abu Dhabi to Varna
Starting now, Wizz Air will operate direct flights from Abu Dhabi to Varna – for the first time in the history of the airport.
The route will operate three times a week, opening a new and unique gateway for tourists from the Middle East to the shores of the Black Sea.

Alongside the new Abu Dhabi route, Wizz Air will resume direct flights from Varna to Frankfurt-Hahn and Nuremberg in Germany starting April 14, 2025, with three weekly departures on each route.
And for Israeli travelers – great news: Wizz Air is ramping up its Varna–Tel Aviv service to four weekly flights, a strategic move expected to significantly boost tourism and strengthen the connection between the two destinations.
More Planes, More Seats
To enable this expansion, Wizz Air will add another Airbus based in Varna in spring 2025 – which will feature two permanently operating aircraft from the city.
This addition will allow the company to increase its seat supply by more than 400,000 in the coming year – a 90% increase compared to 2024.
Strategic Cooperation with the Local Airport
This strategic expansion has been made possible thanks to the strong collaboration between Wizz Air and Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, the company operating the airport.
Dr. Frank Quante, Chief Executive Officer, commented: "The return of the second aircraft is very important for Varna’s connectivity. Flights to Abu Dhabi are the result of a long process – now improvement in the visa process for the Emirates is also needed, so we can realize the immense tourist potential of the Black Sea region."
Denitsa Milosblayevich, Head of Aviation Development at the airport, also welcomed the cooperation: "We have an excellent partnership with Wizz Air – our shared vision is to connect Varna to the world in a smart and efficient way."
With four weekly flights from Tel Aviv to Varna, alongside the strengthening of routes from the Middle East and Western Europe – it seems Varna is becoming a key player in this summer's tourism.
