No Longer Small, But Very Smart: Who are you Sky Express?

For the European market, they're no longer considered a foreign player. The pink tail of Greece's second-largest airline, Sky Express, is becoming a more regular guest at major and important airports across Europe.

The company, established 20 years ago at Heraklion Airport in Crete, initially focused on domestic flights within Greece, using a fleet of small aircraft suited for these purposes and capable of using tiny landing runways. However, it is now rapidly evolving into a modern, innovative, intelligent, and primarily international airline.

After cruise giants announced their participation, Greek airlines have also announced their arrival at the international tourism exhibition IMTM to be held at EXPO Tel Aviv on May 7-8, 2025. So, after you have probably become familiar with AEGEAN, it's time to get to know Sky Express.

The company is characterized by a combination of competitive prices and meticulous service, a modern fleet, and convenient access to the Greek islands. For travelers wishing to explore Greece in depth, SKY Express offers quick and easy access between Athens and Thessaloniki to over 30 island destinations, including Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, Rhodes, Crete, and more.

Ladies and Gentlemen, A Transformation

In 2020, the company underwent a broad rebranding and technological overhaul, which included a renewed brand design (and the slogan "Greece is Bliss"), a dramatic expansion of its route map, smart marketing, and the launch of a fleet of ATR and Airbus A320neo aircraft that allow for access to destinations in Europe as well. Today, the fleet includes 13 new model Airbus aircraft and 14 ATR planes primarily used for domestic flights. The company has two aircraft on order.

Currently, the company offers scheduled flights to Italy, France, Germany, the UK, and from this year, to the Netherlands - markets that Aegean previously exclusively dominated for flights from Greece. Similar to Aegean, if the company starts operating flights to Ben Gurion Airport, you can of course fly with them to Greece, but also to various destinations in Europe with connections through Athens, which could lower the price.

Like many other airlines, sustainability is emphasized at SKY Express. The new fleet of aircraft is considered fuel-efficient, which contributes to reduced carbon emissions, one of the critical focuses in the aviation industry ahead of future "zero emissions" policies.

On The Way To Ben Gurion Airport?

So will we see the company's planes landing in Israel soon? PassportNews learned in the past of contacts made between Israeli officials and the company, but these have not yet matured into the opening of a route between Ben Gurion Airport and various destinations in Greece. However, the arrival of Sky Express representatives in Israel certainly indicates that the option is still on the table.

And as we've learned enough times in the past - a multitude of airlines operates excellently for us, the customers. The greater the competition, the cheaper and more competitive the prices, so we can only hope to see the company with us soon.
