A powerful earthquake struck with a magnitude of 7.4 and Carnival Corporation announced: "The country faces a long road following this tragedy. As a destination our guests love to visit, we will continue to support our friends and colleagues in the recovery process."
A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck on the night of last Tuesday in Vanuatu - a nation of islands in the Pacific Ocean, east of Australia.
Carnival Corporation & plc announced that it is joining the aid efforts in Vanuatu and is donating $60,000 as an initial response to the damages of the devastating earthquake.
It was reported, "The ProMedical team worked around the clock for the first 48 hours after the tragedy occurred in Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, searching for survivors in the ruins and assisting in providing critical medical treatment to the injured."
The company also stated that Carnival Corporation has been supporting a non-government emergency response organization for several years through a donation fund supporting charities in destinations where the cruise line visits throughout the Pacific Ocean.
"This donation was made possible thanks to all the cruise brands of Carnival Corporation & plc operating in the region: Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Seabourn, Cunard, and P&O Cruises Australia, as well as the generosity of P&O guests who also donated. Our contribution will help our long-term partner. ProMedical has everything they need to perform their lifesaving work and continue ongoing care for the residents of Vanuatu," it was stated.
Furthermore, Carnival Corporation reported that they also offered their ships as part of the aid efforts. "Vanuatu faces a long road following this tragedy. As a destination our guests love to visit and as partners for many decades, we will continue to support our friends and colleagues in the recovery process. We look forward to resuming our visits to Port Vila once the community is ready to welcome us back. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this disaster."
