The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued updated guidelines that took effect immediately. The new regulations govern how passengers can carry liquids, gels, and aerosols in their carry-on bags at all public airports across the country.
The regulations require that all small containers brought on board by passengers or crew must undergo thorough screening.
The announcement clarifies the definition of "liquids, gels, and aerosols," which includes a wide variety of items, from drinks and sauces to cosmetics, skincare products, and pressurized containers like sprays and foams. Even substances containing both solid and liquid components, such as mascara and lipstick, are included in these regulations.
Airport operators are now responsible for implementing screening procedures for all small containers intended for passenger cabins on airplanes or restricted areas within the airport.
According to the new rules, individual containers of liquids, gels, and aerosols must not exceed 100 milliliters and must be stored within a container of the same capacity. Passengers are allowed to carry multiple items, provided that the total volume does not exceed one liter per person.
Airport authorities may also require passengers to consolidate these items into a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag. This bag will be checked separately from other carry-on luggage and will not count as part of the carry-on baggage allowance.
Airport operators are advised to inspect these bags separately at security checkpoints, unless advanced screening technology is used, such as X-ray scanners capable of detecting these items within carry-on luggage.
