Nationwide Strike to Disrupt Belgium: A national workers' strike is expected today (Tuesday, 29th April) in Belgium. Workers' unions are halting operations and demonstrations are planned across the country.
In light of the strike, Brussels Airport has announced that "we anticipate significant disruption in our airport's operations. To ensure smooth operations and maintain the safety of passengers and staff, we have decided, in consultation with airlines, to cancel some outbound flights."
As mentioned, Brussels Airport has asked airlines to reduce flights on the strike day, and it is estimated that around 30% of outbound flights will be canceled. The number of canceled flights may increase in the coming days as the situation develops.
Passengers should be prepared for potential delays or last-minute cancellations of outbound flights. According to airport announcements, "airlines will contact affected passengers to find alternative solutions."
However, Brussels Airport recommends that all passengers plan their travel to the airport according to the latest updates provided by the airport and airlines.
Not Just at Brussels' Main Airport
Disruptions are also expected in public transportation services, and passengers are advised to arrive early—two hours ahead of flights to Schengen destinations and three hours in advance for non-Schengen destinations.
The national strike day will have a broader impact on Belgian aviation beyond the reduction of flights at Brussels Airport. Brussels South Charleroi Airport has already announced that no flights will depart from the airport on the strike day.
