Marriott International to Acquire citizenM, Expanding Its Portfolio with Upscale Urban Hospitality

Marriott International has announced an agreement to acquire citizenM, a boutique hotel chain known for its premium yet accessible urban accommodations.

Valued at approximately $1 billion, the deal will see citizenM join Marriott’s expansive portfolio of 30 brands, which includes Ritz-Carlton, W Hotels, Sheraton, Westin, AC, Aloft, and more.

Founded in 2008 in the Netherlands, citizenM operates 40 hotels in major urban centers across Europe, North America, and Asia—from Amsterdam, London, and New York to Los Angeles, Miami, and beyond. Designed for modern travelers seeking innovation and convenience, citizenM properties are characterized by contemporary design, smart technology, and highly personalized service, blending style and functionality in prime city locations.

As part of the acquisition, Marriott plans to expand citizenM's presence into additional markets and integrate the hotels into the Bonvoy membership system. This move will offer guests new luxury urban accommodation opportunities at competitive prices.

This initiative is part of Marriott's growth strategy, seeking to add innovative brands tailored to the demands of the younger traveler generation.

Anthony Capuano, CEO of Marriott International: "citizenM is an exceptional addition to the Marriott family. It strengthens our commitment to providing unique urban experiences for our guests worldwide."
