InterContinental Sofia Hotel claimed first place in the 'Most Green Companies in Bulgaria' 2025 contest, in the Tourism, Hospitality, and Entertainment industry category.

The award was received by Aboubakr Hennou, the hotel's General Manager, at a ceremony held within the annual competition by b2b Media Group, recognized as one of the central stages in Bulgaria for promoting sustainability in the business sector.

A Breakthrough in Eco-friendly Hospitality

The award was granted partly due to the hotel being the first in Bulgaria to receive the international Green Key environmental standard – a quality mark recognized in Europe and worldwide, awarded to tourism institutions committed to responsible environmental management. Additionally, the hotel is part of the flagship program of IHG Group:
“Meeting for Good: Sustainable Meetings” – an initiative aimed at offering sustainable conference and event solutions, reducing environmental impact, and providing tools for resource use measurement and optimization.

Hotel representatives note that the green initiatives include the use of ecological cleaning materials, reducing plastic use, smart energy-saving systems, water recycling, staff training on sustainability, and collaborations with local suppliers.

A Competition with Broad Impact

The b2b Media competition, now in its 15th consecutive year, aims to advance sustainability in Bulgaria by recognizing and honoring organizations in the private and public sectors working towards green projects, environmental innovation, climate education, and sustainable development. The competition's award is regarded as a mark of excellence and an incentive for significant business environmental action.

Commitment to a Green Future

"We are very proud of this recognition," stated General Manager Aboubakr Hennou, "It reflects the way we operate – not only hosting at the highest level but doing so responsibly, with genuine attention to the next generation and the environment we inhabit and work in."
