American Airlines is gearing up for its biggest summer yet as it plans to operate more than 715,000 flights from May 16 to September 2 – nearly 5 flights every minute.
The airline is enhancing operations at its major hubs and introducing new technological innovations to ensure a smoother experience for millions of travelers.
Among other initiatives, American Airlines is testing a new technology system at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) airport that identifies outgoing flights with tight connections and can offer brief delays to help customers reach their flights without disrupting the overall schedule. This unique technology, soon to expand to Charlotte (CLT) and other hubs, aims to assist passengers in making their connecting flights.
This summer's schedule includes nearly 5% more flights compared to last year, with a 20% increase in flights from Chicago (ORD), for example.
Summer season innovations from the company include additional boarding time for domestic flights, a revamped app, expedited international flights, new premium seats on the Dreamliner aircraft, a new lounge at the Philadelphia airport, and reduced waiting times at customs stations in major hubs.
