Low-cost airline Wizz Air continues its impressive expansion in Cyprus with the launch of a new flight route from Barcelona to Larnaca, offering a direct and convenient connection between Cyprus and one of Europe's most popular cities.
The new route is expected to operate year-round, joining three other routes that will run in the upcoming winter season from Larnaca and Paphos airports.

As previously reported in Passport News, for the first time since it started operating in Cyprus, the Hungarian company will launch a regular route from Paphos, linking the city with Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

Additionally, from Larnaca, two new routes will be added to major destinations in Eastern Europe: Chisinau (Moldova) and Timisoara (Romania).

This entire initiative is part of a large-scale strategic expansion, supported by close cooperation with the Cypriot Airport Authority, Hermes Airports.
According to the authority's statement:
"Expanding direct connections with airports in Spain and Eastern European countries is one of our main priorities, and we continue negotiations with additional airlines to enhance the island's connectivity."

Since it began operating in Cyprus, Wizz Air has flown over 9 million passengers, a figure that reflects high demand and consistent growth in routes between Cyprus and Europe.

As published earlier this month in PassportNews, Wizz Air marked a significant global milestone by becoming the first in the world to operate the A321XLR aircraft in low-cost operations – equipped with Pratt & Whitney engines. This extremely long-range aircraft includes 239 seats in a single-class configuration, an innovative Airspace cabin, smart lighting system, and substantial improvements to the flight experience – from boarding to sleeping.

The new aircraft will enable the airline to significantly expand its long-haul flights, particularly between Europe, the Middle East, and adjacent regions, while maintaining operational efficiency and low cost.

Currently, the airline operates over 230 A320 family aircraft, with 295 additional aircraft on order – all from Airbus – positioning Wizz Air as one of Europe's low-cost airlines with the newest and most rapidly growing fleet.

With the opening of new routes and the start of operations from Paphos airport, Wizz Air strengthens its status as one of the most active and prominent airlines in Cyprus, offering both local and international passengers an increasingly expanding variety of destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and other regions – while maintaining an accessible pricing model.
