The government is scheduled to discuss at its next meeting on Sunday a proposal to grant a safety net to El Al, which will allow it to operate a direct flight route from Tel Aviv to Buenos Aires.

This move follows an earlier report today on PassportNews which mentioned a tweet by the Argentine ambassador to Israel, Axel Wahnish, indicating that Argentina's President Javier Milei will announce the route during his upcoming visit to Israel.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the safety net was directly agreed upon between El Al management and the Ministry of Finance. It is intended to provide initial support for the airline in operating one of the longest flights in the history of Israeli aviation – approximately 15 hours of continuous flight without stopovers.

If approved, this will be the first time a direct flight route operates between Israel and South America, a move with substantial potential to strengthen ties between the countries and deepen tourism, economic, and community connections - especially with the large Jewish community in Argentina.
