American Airlines has launched a new direct route between Malpensa Airport (MXP) in Milan and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), one of the key hubs for the airline in North America.
This is a significant move strengthening the air links between Italy and the United States and establishing Milan as an international aviation hub.
The new route complements American Airlines' daily flight between Milan and New York (JFK), expanding the airline's presence in the European market with two direct routes from Italy to major destinations in the U.S.
A Daily Bridge Between Europe and the U.S.
The daily flight between Milan and Philadelphia offers passengers convenient access to one of America's historic and central cities – the first to serve as the American capital – and onward to over 120 destinations in North America, South America, and the Caribbean.
Luigi Batoutlou, Vice President of Commercial for Milan Airports (SEA Milan Airports), welcomed the launch of the new route, stating: "American Airlines' decision to launch another route from Malpensa reinforces the region's status and attractiveness in the eyes of international airlines. For passengers, this means quality connection between Italy's economic heart and important centers in the United States, and beyond – a broad connection bridge."
A Soaring Summer Season
The summer season of 2025 is expected to be one of the busiest ever for Malpensa Airport.
The latest data shows:
Approximately 200 direct destinations will depart from Malpensa this summer
Milan's airport is noting a growth of over 18% in long-haul flights this year – the highest rate among major European airports.
Philadelphia (PHL) serves as one of the airline's important hubs, offering an easy and efficient entry point to the United States for international travelers. From this hub, flights depart to various U.S. cities such as Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and more – making it a central connection point for passengers from Milan and beyond Europe.
