The tallest active volcano in Europe has erupted once again.

Mount Etna in Sicily erupted this afternoon (June 2, 2025) while tourists were on the mountain. The tourists were documented fleeing quickly from the site.

Last year's August eruption resulted in significant ash dispersion, posing a danger to flights passing through the area. Last year's eruption was less intense and led to flight cancellations, creating expectations of cancellations at Catania's airport this time as well.

There are currently no reports of damage or casualties from this year's eruption.

An Israir flight that took off for nearby Catania has already returned to Israel, and no additional flights are expected today. As of now, the flight scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, will proceed as planned, but it is advised to monitor the flight schedule and updates here at Passport News.
