The International Air Transport Association (IATA) published its monthly data on global flight demand for April 2025.
Total demand, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK), increased by 8.0% compared to April 2024. Total capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASK), rose by 6.5% year-over-year. The load factor in April was 83.6%, a slight increase from the same month last year.
International demand climbed by 10.8% compared to April 2024. Capacity increased by 8.5% year-over-year, and the load factor reached 84.1% - the highest ever recorded for April.
Domestic flight demand grew by 3.3% compared to April 2024. Capacity rose by 3.1% year-over-year, with a load factor of 82.7%.
Willie Walsh, IATA Director General: "April was a positive month for tourism. Growth was strengthened, especially in international demand, which reached new heights. The return of the transatlantic market to growth is particularly encouraging, but there are signs of instability in consumer and business confidence, with ongoing weakness in the US domestic market and a sharp decline in premium travel in North America."
Walsh referred to the IATA General Assembly currently taking place in India: "As we gather in New Delhi for the 81st annual IATA General Meeting and the World Air Transport Summit, it is noteworthy that domestic growth in India exceeds 10%."
Meanwhile, it was announced today (June 2) that the next IATA conference will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2026. The conference will be hosted by LATAM Airlines.
