Lufthansa Group Plans Return: While the Lufthansa Group has announced its intention to gradually resume routes to Tel Aviv starting June 23, ITA Airways, which recently joined the Lufthansa Group, has decided to extend the suspension of its flights to Tel Aviv until at least July 6th.
The Italian company announced that Lufthansa Group airlines will return to operations in phases, based on regional assessments, but ITA will prolong its suspension and continue monitoring security and logistics developments before making a final decision on the return date.
Passengers who have already booked flights to Tel Aviv with ITA can choose between rescheduling without a fee or receiving a full refund.
ITA emphasizes that the safety of passengers, crew, and ground staff is a top priority, which is why the situation in the region is being closely monitored. The company apologized for the inconvenience caused to travelers.
It should be noted that the Lufthansa Group currently holds 41% of ITA Airways shares, expanding as the fifth airline in the network.
Both parties already agreed in May 2023 that Lufthansa would acquire 41% of ITA Airways. The European Commission recently approved the deal. Other competition authorities outside the EU have since also approved it.
The first stage of the investment was completed in January 2025, through a capital increase of 325 million euros. Options for purchasing the remaining shares of ITA Airways have been agreed upon between the Lufthansa Group and can be exercised starting this year.
As mentioned, since January 2025, ITA Airways is part of the Lufthansa Group and will be the fifth airline in the group network.
