The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air, is celebrating a historic milestone by flying 30 million passengers to and from Bulgaria, a feat that has made it one of the most prominent names in the local aviation market and a strategic growth driver for the country's air transportation sector.
The festive ceremony marking the occasion took place this week on the runway at Vasil Levski Airport in Sofia, where the 30 millionth passenger arriving from Nice was warmly congratulated and gifted a special flight voucher worth 300 EUR from the company — a symbolic gesture representing the company's commitment to its passengers.
Ongoing Strategic Partnership
In the congratulatory remarks at the ceremony, Jesus Caballero Pinto, CEO of Sofia Airport, stated it is "a success story embodying a deep partnership between the airport and the airline."
Anastasia Novak, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, noted that "this growth would not have been possible without the trust of the passengers and the ongoing investment in service, efficiency, and innovation."
The Numbers Speak
As of today, Wizz Air operates from Bulgaria:
47 regular routes to 15 countries, with aircraft based in Sofia and Varna supported by a local crew of over 350 employees.
The Hungarian company is considered one of the dominant airlines in the country in both passenger numbers and operational presence.
A Long-Term Look Ahead
Wizz Air continues to invest in innovation and advanced equipment: the company recently became the world's first low-cost airline to operate the new and advanced Airbus A321XLR – signaling a revolution in long-haul flights with reduced operational costs.
This move is expected to allow the company to expand its network of destinations from the Balkans to farther destinations without sacrificing the low prices that have made it so popular.
