This week, a festive ceremony was held at Miami International Airport (MIA) to mark the inauguration of the new route by the Brazilian airline GOL between Miami and Belem – the capital of the state of Pará in northern Brazil.
The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a traditional Brazilian dance performance, and special refreshments for passengers on the inaugural flight.
The new route includes two weekly flights and will serve as the first direct bridge since 2020 between South Florida and the Amazon region. It is a significant development that strengthens the air connection between Miami and four major cities in Brazil: Belem, Brasilia, Manaus, and Fortaleza.
Beyond its economic and tourism importance, the Miami route is also expected to play an important role environmentally: it will provide direct access for participants in the UN World Climate Conference (COP30), which will be held in Belem from November 10 to 21, 2025.
This is the first time the city will host the important climate conference, considered the main global event for discussion and decision-making on climate change.
The management of Miami airport views the opening of the new route as a shared commitment to expanding air connections with Latin America, with an emphasis on strategic destinations with environmental and global significance.
