Another unusual incident involving a SWISS Airbus A220 aircraft. Flight LX1413 from Belgrade to Zurich made an emergency landing today (July 7, 2025) in Friedrichshafen, southern Germany.

According to the company, the unplanned landing was due to "warning messages in the cockpit of the Airbus A220-300 and light smoke detected in the rear of the passenger cabin."

Following protocols in such situations, the aircraft crew decided to deviate from the planned route and land at the nearest suitable airport.

The landing proceeded without special incidents, and the pilots taxied the plane to a parking position. Passengers disembarked using the regular staircase. Medical staff arrived on the scene, and buses were provided to transport passengers to Zurich, their original destination.

SWISS apologized to the passengers for the inconvenience caused and stated that the exact cause of the incident is under investigation: "SWISS team is on its way to Friedrichshafen to provide full support to passengers, crew, and local authorities."

Last December, a SWISS flight with an identical aircraft en route from Bucharest to Zurich made an emergency landing in Graz due to smoke in the passenger and cockpit areas. 17 passengers and crew members were affected. In 2019, SWISS temporarily grounded its entire fleet of A220 aircraft after a recurring issue was discovered.
