Following the removal of the European Union's safety agency recommendation not to fly to Israel, more and more airlines are making their way back to Ben Gurion Airport.
The latest to join is the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air, which will return to the country on August 8, more than a month before the original date set for its return (September 15). The return was made possible after prolonged discussions and pressure from the Israeli Ministry of Transport on the company's management.
PassportNews learned that the company wanted to return this month but could not do so due to operational circumstances - mainly because aircraft were scheduled for other destinations during the busy summer season, while there was uncertainty in Israel regarding the resumption of flights amid the war with Iran.
Later, the company is expected to gradually resume additional routes, which will significantly reduce flight options for Israelis - a goal previously set several times by Transport Minister Miri Regev.
As we reported earlier today, United Airlines is also expected to return to Israel this month, earlier than anticipated, in a move that might also encourage its competitor Delta Air Lines to resume flights to Ben Gurion Airport. According to estimates, Lufthansa Group airlines are also expected to return to the country soon.
