Wizz Air continues to strengthen its presence in Cyprus with the announcement of a new route from Pafos Airport (PFO) to Warsaw-Modlin (WMI), set to launch this December.

This follows the low-cost carrier’s recently announced connection to Yerevan, which is scheduled to begin in October 2025.

The addition of Warsaw-Modlin marks another important step in the airline’s growing relationship with Pafos, signaling continued demand for budget-friendly travel options between Eastern Europe and Cyprus’s popular coastal city.

Wizz Air’s steady expansion in Pafos raises important questions about the airline’s long-term intentions on the island. With Ryanair already operating a significant hub from Pafos, the possibility of Wizz Air establishing a similar base is gaining attention among industry watchers and local tourism stakeholders.

The airline, known for its bold moves across Central and Eastern Europe, may be testing the waters with gradual additions before making a larger strategic commitment to the Cypriot market.

Officials at Hermes Airports, the operator of Pafos and Larnaca airports, welcomed the announcement and reiterated their satisfaction with the partnership.

Cyprus remains a year-round destination for many travelers from Poland, Armenia, and neighboring countries, with Pafos offering a blend of historic attractions, beaches, and mild winter escapes. As European travel stabilizes post-COVID and demand for secondary city connections grows, routes like PFO-WMI and PFO-EVN are seen as highly strategic for airlines seeking new growth markets.

While no official announcement has been made, the frequency of recent route launches and Wizz Air’s broader network strategy suggest the airline may be eyeing a more permanent role in Pafos. A potential base could mean additional aircraft stationed locally, increased employment opportunities, and expanded seasonal and year-round services.
