The Silent Revolution of Europe's Central Airport: Welcoming 33 Million Passengers

Amsterdam Airport is setting records and rewarding quieter aircraft with over 32 million passengers. Mega infrastructure investments and unprecedented incentives for quieter planes are making the airport more pleasant for everyone

The main airport of the Netherlands, Schiphol, is showcasing one of its strongest semestral periods - both economically and environmentally.

According to the mid-year report for 2025, over 32.8 million passengers have passed through the airport since the beginning of the year (a 3% increase compared to 2024), and the number of flights reached 232,709 air movements.

Simultaneously, new economic incentives introduced in April 2025 have led to a 7% increase in the use of the quietest aircraft - now accounting for 30% of the flights at the airport.
The policy is clear: the quieter the aircraft, the lower the charges for the airline.

Additionally, night flights are more expensive than day flights, aiming to reduce noise and improve the quality of life for residents living near the airport.

During the first half of the year, Schiphol invested 495 million euros in infrastructure upgrades, including:

Renovating lounges, adding seating areas, and new shops

Installing lifting aids at 385 positions in the baggage system - for employee welfare

Maintaining landing strips and upgrading climate control systems

Continuing the construction of the new "Pier A" - expected to open in April 2027

Transitioning to electric vehicle fleets, as part of the airport's environmental vision

The revenues of the Schiphol Group grew by 20.4% and totaled 1.262 billion euros, with an operating profit of 279 million euros. The adjusted net profit for the half-year was 214 million euros, more than double the same period last year.
However, cash flow after investments (including mergers and acquisitions) was negative and was 111 million euros, against a total investment target of 6 billion euros by 2029.

The report indicates that 70 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport in 2025, almost as many as in 2019 - restoring Schiphol to its status as one of the most important air hubs in Europe.
32.8 million of them flew through Schiphol by the end of June, including 9.5 million intercontinental passengers. Another 3.3 million passed through Eindhoven, and 1.1 million through Rotterdam The Hague.

Pieter van Aauri, CEO of the airport: "We are beginning to see the fruits of investment in quality, both in terms of passenger experience and environmental acoustics. Schiphol is becoming a quieter, more pleasant, and advanced airport for everyone."
