Weather Disruptions Impact Flights. Severe weather conditions at Mexico City's Benito Juárez International Airport have led to its temporary closure, impacting one of the city's and the nation's key transit hubs.

According to an official airport statement, "Due to heavy rains this afternoon and reports of poor visibility, and in order to maintain operational safety, departures and arrivals will be suspended for the next three hours by order of the aviation authority, allowing cleanup operations to address the flooding."

The airport advises passengers to contact their airlines to get the latest flight updates and schedule changes.

Various reports from Mexico indicate that to avoid unnecessary risks, more than 60 flights have been diverted to nearby airports due to this exceptional situation.

While it's currently unclear how the continuing weather system in Mexico will affect airport operations, the rains in the capital area are expected to persist throughout the week.
