As Israel plans to open a base for the low-cost giant Wizz Air, amidst growing opposition to its opening, the airline isn't slowing down.
This evening (August 13), the company announced the opening of a new base in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The new base is set to start operations on November 14, at which point Wizz Air will become the largest airline in the country. Currently, there are direct flights from Bratislava to Spain, Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Switzerland, and Norway.

"The expansion not only strengthens connections between countries and cities but also supports tourism and economic growth, and is part of our mission to offer remarkably low airfare across Europe, all carried out with an especially young fleet," says Wizz Air.
How to get there from Israel
The Hungarian airline does not operate a route between Slovakia and Israel, nor does it plan to initiate such a route in the near future. Flights between Tel Aviv and Bratislava are managed by Overseas from the Genesis Group, which successfully launched a direct line from Tel Aviv in May.

The city is situated along the Danube River, which runs right through the city, serving as a natural lifeline with a bustling promenade, cafes, restaurants, and bars on the water where locals and tourists meet in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
Bratislava has also been chosen to host the annual conference of the Travel Agencies Association which will take place in the Slovak capital from October 19 to 22, 2025. The conference will be held in collaboration with the Slovak Tourism Ministry and will focus, among other things, on deepening cooperation between Israel's tourism sector and its Slovak counterparts.
Traditionally, this is the main and prestigious event of the travel industry, attracting hundreds of office owners, travel agents, airline representatives, business partners, and industry professionals each year.
