Cyprus Embraces Winter: New Routes from Larnaca by Wizz Air and Cyprus Airways

The winter season ushers in a new bloom for Larnaca Airport with new routes by Wizz Air and Cyprus Airways, consolidating Cyprus's position as a key player in the regional aviation market and broadening the range of destinations available to travelers to and from the neighboring island

Cyprus Strengthens Aviation Links. The aviation sector in Cyprus continues to expand and establish its role as a central bridge between Europe, the Middle East, and the Caucasus. Ahead of the upcoming winter season, new routes launching from Larnaca were announced this week, which will strengthen the destination network and enhance connectivity.

Among the new launches: Wizz Air will start operating two weekly flights from September between Larnaca and the city of Gyumri in Armenia, a new destination on Cyprus's aviation map that connects the country to the large Armenian community on the island and expands its horizons towards the Caucasus.

In December, Cyprus Airways will also join, launching a new route between Larnaca and Heraklion in Crete, a popular holiday destination for both Cypriot and European tourists.

These moves are part of a wave of route openings in recent seasons, with Larnaca and Paphos increasingly establishing themselves as bustling aviation hubs.

The new additions aim to enhance Cyprus's standing as a regional hub: a sought-after vacation destination in Europe and, at the same time, a strategic link to destinations in the Middle East and the Caucasus.

It is worth noting that just recently we reported that Wizz Air is also launching new routes from Cyprus, including Larnaca-Venice - starting on December 2, 2025, operating three weekly flights, and another route between Larnaca-Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina) opening on March 31, 2026, with two weekly flights.

Even before these routes, the Hungarian company already operates over 20 routes from Larnaca to numerous cities: Budapest, Debrecen, Krakow, Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Katowice, Belgrade, Vienna, Prague, Kutaisi (Georgia), London, Vilnius, Yerevan, Athens, Thessaloniki, Sofia, Belgrade, Abu Dhabi (until the base closure soon), and Tel Aviv - a route that resumed operations last month.

In this way, Wizz Air further enhances its existing presence at Larnaca Airport, the larger of the two airports in Cyprus.

The tourism industry in Cyprus is experiencing continued growth, with an increase in passenger numbers and the expansion of international airlines alongside the Cypriot flagship airline.

The 'Open Skies' policy led by the government, encouraging international companies to expand operations and investing in modern infrastructure, establishes the island not only as a tourist destination but also as a new transportation and aviation hub in the Euro-Mediterranean area.
