Thousands of exhibitors will again have to stay home after Messe Berlin, organizer of the world’s largest travel industry exhibition, announced the cancellation of ITB Berlin 2022, scheduled to take place between March 9-13. This is the third cancellation in a row after both 2020 and 2021 fairs were canceled due to corona, and there were big expectations for this year’s fair to be the relaunch of tourism worldwide.
Messe Berlin issued the following statement:
“With great regret, we have to inform you today that the in-person edition of ITB Berlin 2022 will not take place as initially planned. Unfortunately, due to the latest developments and accompanying directives resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, Messe Berlin cannot afford its exhibitors and partners the necessary planning certainty with the holding of an in-person ITB Berlin in early March. The current situation surrounding the pandemic and the tightened travel restrictions and limits imposed on the numbers that can take part in large-scale events made Messe Berlin take this step.
“We made every effort to make it possible to hold ITB Berlin as an in-person event again in the German capital city. Particularly in these times, the industry needs orientation, inspiration, and dialogue. With the live-streamed convention and Digital Business Day as well as our new regional travel events during the year, we are offering the industry a wide range of fascinating content and new business opportunities in 2022.”
All exhibitor booth orders for ITB Berlin 2022 will be canceled, and payments will be refunded. Tickets reservations for visitors will also be canceled or not distributed.
ITB Berlin will be back in full force come March 8, 2023, hopefully with an in-person event that will take place at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.
