While Israeli airlines remain in limbo, with no end in sight, with new countries added to the red list almost on a daily basis, making it nearly impossible for the airlines to plan ahead, it seems that Lufthansa is returning to pre-pandemic frequencies with over 160 destinations from Frankfurt and Munich by next summer. The number of intra-European connections from Frankfurt and Munich will almost reach the 2019 level with around 5,000 weekly flights.
At the start of the summer flight schedule, Lufthansa aims to strengthen its hub in Munich, and starting March 27, the airline will offer its first nonstop from Munich to Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, and San Diego, CA.
In Europe, Lufthansa plans to offer six new destinations from the Bavarian capital: Kalamata, Greece; the Island of Menorca, Spain; Varna, on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria; Billund in Denmark, and Bergen in Norway; and starting April, Air Dolomiti will also land in Brindisi, Italy.
Another subsidiary to be taking off from Munich is Eurowings Discover. With the start of next year’s summer schedule, the airline will fly to sunny destinations like Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Cancún in Mexico. Another new addition to the network is Las Vegas, Nevada. Over the course of next year, Eurowings Discover will add 22 short- and medium-haul destinations, including the Canary Islands, some Turkish hotspots, and 12 Greek islands, including Samos and Skiathos. As planned, the low-cost carrier will take over these routes from Lufthansa.
As for flights from Frankfurt, Lufthansa plans to fly next year to more U.S. destinations than ever before. One significant addition will be St. Louis, Missouri, starting June 2022. This will be the first nonstop flight to St Louis by any continental European airline in twenty years.
Next summer, Lufthansa will also fly from Frankfurt to Stavanger, Norway, and Liverpool, UK, for the first time. And starting in May, also to Rennes, France.
Eurowings Discover will also offer passengers many attractive short-, medium- and long-haul destinations from Frankfurt: Next summer’s flight schedule includes Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Fort Myers, Anchorage, Calgary, Halifax, and Tampa Bay in North America. And on top of 19 long-haul destinations, Eurowings Discover also offers short- and medium-haul flights to nine Greek islands, the Canary Islands, Portugal, and Turkey.
As for the airline’s current winter schedule, it also includes Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, Panama City, and Malé in the Maldives.
