ITA Airways, Italy’s s new national carrier, has just confirmed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) announced on 30th September 2021 and ordered 28 aircraft from Airbus, including seven A220s, 11 A320neos, and ten A330neos, the new version of the ever-popular widebody airliner. In addition, the airline aims to “pursue its plans to lease A350s to complement its fleet modernization,” stated the company.
“Today, the strategic partnership with Airbus takes an important step forward with the finalization of the order we announced last September. In addition to this agreement, possibilities for further collaboration have emerged, particularly regarding technological developments in the aviation sector and digitalization, where Airbus is the market leader. All this is part of the actions to achieve our environmental sustainability objectives,” commented Alfredo Altavilla, Executive President, ITA Airways.
Christian Scherer, Airbus CCO and Head of Airbus International, further added, “We are very proud to partner with ITA Airways in building its long-term future with the most efficient, latest technology Airbus aircraft. This agreement supports ITA Airways business objectives to develop its network in Europe and internationally in the most sustainable way.”
The new Airbus order will expand ITA Airways’ initial fleet with a new generation of aircraft for better environmental performance, including state-of-the-art cabins to guarantee maximum airline efficiency and the best comfort to travelers.
