Tit for tat: Bulgaria adds Israel to red list

Bulgaria didn’t wait long, and as of August 18, Israel will be added to its red list of banned countries, alongside Iran. The decision was made shortly after Israel added Bulgaria to its own list of banned countries, causing great displeasure in Bulgaria.

Shortly after Israel announced last week that Bulgaria will be added to its list of banned countries, and after the Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Stela Baltova publicly expressed her displeasure in a special interview with PassportNews, claiming the decision is unwarranted since Bulgaria is considered a green country, it seems that the tables have turned.

In light of the spike in morbidity in Israel, Bulgaria has now updated its list of banned countries, adding Israel to the red list alongside Iran, effective from August 18.

Bulgaria joins Germany and Romania, who have also added Israel to their list of high-risk countries, and it looks like more countries are expected to follow suit.

On the other hand, Bulgaria has removed Monaco, Malta, and Andorra from its list of banned countries, moving them instead to the amber list. In addition, Lithuania, Denmark, Slovenia, and Switzerland, until recently on Bulgaria’s list of green countries, were demoted to the amber list.
