Dubai-based carrier flydubai has officially kicked off its new twice-weekly flights to Chișinău, Moldova’s capital city, with a festive water cannon salute to mark the inaugural journey.

The move, which turned flydubai into the pioneering UAE operator to offer direct flights to the Eastern European country, further proves the carrier’s interest in reaching poorly served markets amid its ongoing expansion in Europe

Next in line is the addition of Iași, the company’s second destination in Romania, on September 19, and Vilnius (Lithuania) and Riga (Latvia) in December.

flydubai’s Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and E-commerce, Jeyhun Efendi: “As our newest gateway to Europe, Moldova offers our customers more options to explore previously underserved destinations. This reflects our commitment to facilitating free flows of trade and tourism while providing convenient and diverse travel choices for our passengers from the UAE and across our network.”

Sergiu Spoială, General Director of International Airport “Eugen Doga” Chișinău: “The launch of this direct connection to Dubai marks an important milestone for our airport and for Moldova, creating new opportunities for tourism, business, and cultural exchange. This partnership strengthens our role as a key gateway in the region and offers our passengers greater connectivity to the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, while fostering closer economic ties between Moldova and the United Arab Emirates.”

Currently, flydubai’s network, served by a state-of-the-art fleet of 94 Boeing 737 aircrafts, consists of over 135 worldwide destinations spread across 57 countries.

Flights to Chișinău’s airport will be available on Wednesdays and Sundays from Terminal 2, Dubai International. Emirates has announced that it will also be marketing the route.

In April, Ukraine’s SkyUp Airlines presented two direct weekly flights connecting Chișinău to Stockholm

Chișinău is a hidden gem for travellers seeking versatile architecture and iconic landmarks, such as the Triumphal Arch, Cathedral Park, Rose Valley Park, the Cascades Staircase in the Valley of the Mills Park, and the ATU Winery, the country's first urban winery.
